Prayers for morning and evening

Morning Prayers

Monday

O God of fresh beginnings, As I begin this day and this week, May I look to gift new growth in someone, just like a loving parent gifts themselves to their child. Ps 103: My soul give thanks…it is he who fills your life with good things, renewing your youth like an eagle’s.

Tuesday

O God my anchor, my rock. Our world is insecure and I feel anxious, if I listen to the woe of the news. Focus my attention today on the firm foundation of my faith, and the calm confidence I can give to others. Ps 23: The Lord is my shepherd,There is nothing I shall want.

Wednesday

O God whose earth is sacred, The world is advertised as a market place, where everyone has their price. Give me the integrity to live your truth, to be there for the stranger, and loyal to my friends. Ps 26: Vindicate me, O Lord, For I have walked in my integrity

Thursday

God whose power is found in compassion, I feel an insignificant spectator, watching those in the tower of babel, deciding the course of events. Let me today own my thoughts and my voice in sync with your self giving love. Ps 86 But you, God of mercy and compassion, abound in love and truth.

Friday

O God, the joy of forgiveness will source the holy wisdom to guide me to happiness. May I reflect this trust today, and be a source of sound counsel. Ps 32 Happy is the one in whose spirit is no guile.

Saturday

Listen to my cry of inadequacy, my God, as I wait to discern your call. Just as the morepork sings in the night, may my voice be heard in your cathedral forest. Gather my strength, grant me patient sight, to live in your presence today. Ps 102 You did lay the foundation of the earth…Incline your ear to me.

Evening prayers

Monday

Ps 124 Our souls were set free like birds out of the snares of the bird-catcher. God who made the heavens and the earth, My legs feel as though I have run well. Make me let go of today, and connect with the reservoirs of wisdom within me in the darkness of the deep.

Tuesday

Ps 91 You will not be afraid of any terror in the night. God who brings a sacred peace, I am safe in your company as I leave behind the turmoil of the day. Refresh me, body and soul, in the quiet of the night.

Wednesday

Ps 57 Be merciful to me, because you are the refuge of my spirit. God of mercy and compassion, You are alongside me as I snuggle into the refuge of the quiet. Recharge my weary body and replenish my spirit.

Thursday

Ps 37 God loves justice, and he will not desert his holy ones. Do not disturb yourself about the wicked. God of justice, It is easy for my soul to lie unsettled in the struggles of our world. Be present now, and allow me to rest, confident you will not desert me.

Friday

Ps 145 God guards all those who love him. He is close to anyone who cries out to him.
God my guardian and mentor, It is time to close my eyes and absorb the silence of the dark.
Be close to me; hear my cry for strength. Let the rhythms of sleep refresh my soul.

Saturday

Ps 46 Be still and know that I am God. Holy God, The day of worship beckons, when the faithful gather to sing thanks. Let my heart sing chants of praise, in harmony with the foundations of the earth.
